The eighth China Town Hall Meeting, coordinated by the the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations (NCUSCR) on October 16, was open with a live webcast from Washington and followed by a public lecture at Nelson Mandela auditorium in the FedEx Global Center.

CHINA Town Hall is a national day of programming on China involving about 70 cities throughout the United States. This year's meeting was featured by the 39th president of the United States Jimmy Carter (View his biography), who promoted to establish diplomatic relations with China during his term. President Carter’s presentation, including the Q&A segment, was broadcast live from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT). The talk was moderated by Mr. Stephen A. Orlins, President of National Committee on U.S.-China Relations.
Following President Carter's talk, local speaker Rober Goldberg, who served as deputy chief of mission at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, discussed U.S.-China relations at Nelson Mandela Auditorium at UNC. The lecture was followed by a Q&A session.
