Carolina China Network, partnered with Carolina China Council, sent a group of students to take in the magnificent performance of China National Orchestra and Carolina International Orchestra, playing together in a two-week tour in the United States with huge success. 10 award-winning artists along with their conductor He Jianguo and director Xi Qiang performed concerts. The China National Orchestra delegates also gave lectures with on stage demonstration on Chinese traditional music to students, professionals and the general public in Washington DC, Raleigh, Pinehurst and Sanford, NC. The CNO's Trans-Pacific tour brought Chinese traditional music and music instruments to Americans, and to most of them, for the first time.
Carolina China Network presented China Town Hall, featuring a live webcast of Madeleine Albright, 64th Secretary. This event was put on by the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations and broadcast live at over 60 locations nationally. The event was open to all UNC students and faculty as well as the public. After the live Q&A with Madeleine Albright, Carolina China Network hosted local sociology professor Yong Cai of UNC-Chapel Hill. He taught on demographic and population trends sweeping China. The event was held entirely in English and students of all academic disciplines were strongly encouraged to attend!
